International Child Protection Specialist – IHQ, The Salvation Army
Commissioner Carol Telfer became a Salvation Army Officer in 1984 after a career in nursing and midwifery. She and her husband served in corps work in Newry, she was the Primary Health Care Advisor on the Afghan Refugee Programme in Peshawar, Pakistan then a corps officer in Picton, Canada before becoming the Chaplain at a young offenders institute in The Salvation Army Correctional Services in Ottawa, Canada. Corps officership in Rock Ferry followed prior to being the Divisional Family Officer then Divisional Director for Personnel in the Manchester Division. She shared in Divisional Leadership with her husband in West Scotland before being appointed Assistant Secretary for Personnel at THQ. She was then Spiritual Director of Employment Plus and in 2011 was appointed Assistant Chief Secretary.
In 2014 she was appointed in Pakistan territory as a Territorial President of Women’s Ministries, in 2017 she was promoted to the rank of Commissioner. Carol has a BSc. in Health and Social Care and is a trained critical incident debriefing trainer and stress consultant, as well as having a personnel qualification. Carol’s favourite past time is keeping in touch with the family. She enjoys reading, shopping, and swimming.
Commissioner Ivor has been married to Commissioner Carol since 1980 and they have three grown-up children, Kirsty who is a teacher, Lyn who is a Franchisee Consultant in McDonalds and Philip who is a car salesman. They have also been blessed with two grandchildren, Harry who is nearly 7 years old and Sophie age 5 years. All their children live in the UK.
